ManyChat alternatives in 2026: Chatfuel, SendPulse, Tidio, Respond.io

If you are leaving ManyChat because its free plan now covers 25 contacts, the closest like-for-like replacement is Chatfuel — the free tier is intact and the paid plan is a flat $49 a month rather than a bill that scales with your audience. SendPulse has the most generous free tier of the four, Tidio bills conversations instead of contacts, and Respond.io is the team option once WhatsApp and a shared inbox matter.
Why are people leaving ManyChat?
One change, and it is bigger than any price on this page: Manychat’s Free plan now includes up to 25 Active Contacts a month — one user, one Inbox seat, two channels and up to four live automations, with WhatsApp, SMS and Email unavailable Manychat Help, «Free plan», checked 3 September 2026 . The same help article states that all Free accounts have already been moved onto it, including accounts created before the new model launched on 2 March 2026.
The paid ladder that replaced the old two-tier structure has five rungs. Billed yearly, Essential is $14 a month for up to 250 Active Contacts, Pro $29 for up to 2,500, Business $69 for up to 7,500 and Advanced $139 for up to 25,000 Manychat Help, subscription guide, checked 3 September 2026 , each with an overage charge once you pass the included count.
How do you choose a replacement in four steps?
- 1
Find out what you are actually on
Your account's subscription screen, not the marketing page. The two currently disagree.
- 2
Identify what the bill counts
Contacts, subscribers, conversations or a flat fee. This decides how the cost grows, not the sticker price.
- 3
Check the channels, not the logos
TikTok and Telegram are on Manychat's free plan; WhatsApp is not. Every platform draws that line differently.
- 4
Export before you cancel
Contacts move, flows do not. Access ends with the billing period.
What actually decides the cost?
Not the monthly figure — the unit it is charged per. A contact-based plan bills you for an audience whether or not you talk to it, which is why a list that grew during one good campaign can move you two tiers up. A conversation-based plan bills only for exchanges that happen. A flat plan bills nothing extra until you hit a usage ceiling.
That is the real fork here, and it matters more than any $20 difference between tiers.
How do the four compare?
| Tool | What the bill counts | Free tier | Paid entry point | Score (0–10) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chatfuel | Flat fee | Light — Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp | $49/mo (yearly −29%) | 7.5 |
| SendPulse | Subscribers | 3 bots, 500 subscribers, 10k messages/mo | Regional pricing — check locally | 7.0 |
| Tidio | Billable conversations | 50 conversations/mo, 10 seats | $24.17/mo billed annually | 7.4 |
| Respond.io | Monthly active contacts | 7-day trial only | $79/mo, 1,000 contacts, 5 users | 7.2 |
The score is our editorial 0–10 rating, carried over from our Instagram chatbot comparison where the same tools appear. It weighs total cost of ownership and fit, not feature count — and no tool here is a seamless ManyChat replacement, which is why none of them scores above 7.5.
Prices are the vendors’ own published rates, checked on 3 September 2026: Chatfuel’s Light plan is free and AI PRO is $49 a month, with 29% off yearly billing and usage limits on top Chatfuel pricing, checked 3 September 2026 . SendPulse’s free plan allows 3 chatbots, up to 500 subscribers and up to 10,000 messages a month SendPulse messengers pricing, checked 3 September 2026 . Tidio’s free plan covers 50 billable conversations a month across 10 seats, with Starter at $24.17 a month on the annual billing its page defaults to Tidio pricing, checked 3 September 2026 . Respond.io’s Starter is $79 a month for 5 users and 1,000 monthly active contacts, with extra contacts at $12 per 100 on the Growth plan Respond.io pricing, checked 3 September 2026 .
Where we have deliberately left a number out: SendPulse’s paid tiers render in the local currency of wherever you load the page, and we are not going to convert a figure and present it as the vendor’s price. Open the pricing page from your own market and read the total there. This is the same reason our comparisons carry no figure for tools that publish regional prices only.
Who is each one for?
Chatfuel — the swap that changes least. Same Meta channels, a free tier that still exists, and a paid plan that is one number instead of a curve. The downside: usage limits apply, and there is no TikTok or Telegram, both of which Manychat’s free plan does allow.
SendPulse — the landing spot if the free-tier cut is what moved you. Five hundred subscribers against twenty-five is not a marginal difference. The downside: it still counts subscribers, so you have postponed the same problem rather than solved it, and the paid pricing depends on where you are.
Tidio — the one that changes the model rather than the vendor. Billing per answered conversation suits a large audience you reply to selectively. The downside: it is a website support desk first, so Instagram comment and story automation is not the centre of the product.
Respond.io — for a team, not a creator. Shared inbox, workflows, WhatsApp, and an overage rate published up front rather than discovered. The downside: $79 a month to start, and it bills monthly active contacts — the model you may be trying to escape.
So which should you pick?
Start from what your bill counts, not what it costs today. If you want the least disruption, Chatfuel. If you want to stay free, SendPulse. If your list is large and your reply rate is low, Tidio is the only one here whose pricing rewards that shape. If you are a team that lives in WhatsApp, Respond.io.
And before any of it: open your Manychat subscription screen. Given that the company’s own pricing page and help centre currently disagree, the plan you think you are on is worth thirty seconds of checking.
Frequently asked questions
-
01 Is ManyChat's free plan really only 25 contacts now?
Yes, per Manychat's own documentation. Its help centre describes a pricing model introduced on 2 March 2026 in which the Free plan includes up to 25 Active Contacts a month, one user, one Inbox seat, two channels and up to four live automations, with WhatsApp, SMS and Email unavailable. The same article states that all Free accounts have already been moved to the new Free plan, including accounts created before that date.
-
02 Why does the ManyChat pricing page still show 1,000 free contacts?
Because the two pages disagree. Loaded on 3 September 2026, manychat.com/pricing still advertises the older three-tier model — Free up to 1,000 contacts, Pro from $15 a month, Elite custom — while the help centre documents five plans and a 25-contact Free tier. Manychat itself says plan availability varies by region and that migration for older accounts is rolling out country by country, so the page you see may not be the plan you are on. Check Settings → Billing → Subscription in your own account rather than either marketing page.
-
03 Which alternative has the best free tier?
SendPulse, by a wide margin on paper: 3 chatbots, up to 500 subscribers and up to 10,000 messages a month, against ManyChat's 25 contacts. Chatfuel's free Light plan is the better fit if you need Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp in one place and care more about channels than headroom.
-
04 What is the cheapest paid alternative?
Chatfuel's AI PRO at $49 a month flat, or Tidio's Starter at $24.17 a month if you take the annual billing the pricing page defaults to. They are not comparable products, though: Chatfuel automates Meta messaging, Tidio is a website support desk that also connects social channels.
-
05 Does any of them avoid contact-based billing?
Two of the four. Chatfuel charges a flat monthly fee on AI PRO, and Tidio charges per billable conversation — counted only when a human agent replies, so unanswered and bot-handled threads are free. SendPulse and Respond.io both scale with subscribers or monthly active contacts, which is the same shape of bill you may be leaving.
-
06 Can I move my flows across?
Plan on rebuilding rather than importing. Flows, tags and sequences are platform-specific structures; the part that actually travels is your contact list, so export it before you cancel. Manychat keeps access until the end of your current billing period, and any contact overages from that period are still charged.
